Dell Inspiron 1520 freezes after entering password

My computer, the Dell Inspiron 1520, freezes at the login page after starting up. I turn it on and it loads like normal, and when I go to enter my password and hit enter or hit the green arrow to login into my user account it freezes and never loads to my account. There was an update that was installed the last time I used it. It installed and then shut down like normal, and now it's freezing. Any idea what the problem could be or how to fix it? I've already tried turning it off and then back on and that doesn't seem to help whatsoever. Thanks!
