Dell Inspiron 1546, windows 7..black screen! HELP ME!!

HELP this laptop is like 3 mos old, the prompts had me run a diagnostics when I turned it on and all was A O K  then I re started and i get the dell logo for about 10 seconds with the F2 or F12 option on the lower right then after I get a curser on the upper left with a black screen. so far thje two optiions do nothing when Ive investigated, but I am afraid to go any further without help. I hjave FUBAR-ed computers before and got the system to recover.. I didnt do anything to create this, and believe me I would own it if I did. There is no reason I cant System recover, there is something Im missing..HELP!
