Dell Inspiron 5000 no hard drive in bios

I got an Inspiron 5000 free for parts at a yard sale. It didn't have a hard drive. With the correct, working HD installed, Windows Setup detects no HD.  I've discovered that the BIOS in Settings skips the hard drive option. It goes from the time and day settings directly to the next item, after I've reset the factory defaults. I'm sure that if this could be corrected, Windows would load. Can it be corrected? THX in advance 7-3.
