Dell Inspiron 7779 maximum RAM?

I have successfully upgraded my Inspiron 7778 to 32GB RAM with no problems. Is the same upgrade possible for the 7779?

The reason I ask is that the sales rep on live chat told me the i7 version which has 16GB, is single channel and the machine only has one RAM slot on the mainboard. This seems unlikely to me but I thought it was worth asking the question.

2 Memory Slots in the 7779

I just received and installed an additional 16GB in my 7779...no issues at all!

Hi Techtomic

Thanks for writing to us.

The system can support to a max of 16GB RAM. Though we have seen few of our customer trying beyond the max limited suggested/tested  by Dell, for few it did work but for few it was little to no luck.

Do provide us the system tag# and also confirm the name the system is registered under. Let us know the contact number and email address.

Regards

The 7779 does have single channel memory.. which did surprise me initially.  They are probably the same machine, just different options.

From the invoice on my 7779 which arrived today:

370-ACSB 16GB, 2400MHz, DDR4; up to 32GB (additional memory sold separately)

So it looks as though Dell does support 32GB to some extent.

One thing I've noticed is the BIOS shows the memory only running at 2133MHz, any ideas on the discrepancy?

Where did you purchase the memory from?

From Dell. First I couldnt get a sales rep in the Dell chat to sell me one because "your system only supports 16GB".  I did some research and it took some digging but I came up with the SKU above. Searched for it. Found it. Bought it. :-)
