Dell Inspiron laptop Factory reset Problems.

I'm trying to rest my laptop to the factory setting. I am having trouble doing this. I have followed all the steps... but I'm not getting to the FACTORY RESET IMAGE option that I keep seeing in all the directions on how to do this.

This is my path of directions I've followed...

start laptop and hold F8

selected Repair computer

then it loads files.....

selected language...

system recovery options window... signed in under my name which I am assuming in as the administrator........

then it says choose a recovery tool..  and gives the following options.....

Startup Repair

System Restore

System Image Recovery

Windows Memory Diagnostic

Command Prompt

From what I have read.. there should be an option here that says Factory Reset Image... or something of that effect. But I'm not getting that. So I am stuck!

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!  :)

That not an option.. It said to restore to an earlier date, but then it says I have no earlier restore points

Hi  tigerdave70,

Welcome to the Community,

If you haven't  formatted the HDD before and if the recovery partion is still intact try the steps below:

From the list of Recovery Tool, open Command Prompt.

Type the below command  and press enter after each command.

path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32

d:

cd tools

imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\

Ideally the restore process should start within 1 to 2 minutes.

Hope this helps,

Thank You
