Dell Inspiron laptop N7010
I'm getting 8 beeps and a blank screen at start-up. When I hit the F12 key I have no screen; when I hit the "D" Key and power up I am getting color flashes across the screen. No visual on the screen and the fan is running but "exhaust" is very hot. what is the problem? Thanks.

The 8 beeps means the screen isn't being sensed by the system, but if the color test works, the problem isn't the screen - it's either the video cable (the wiring harness that runs between the mainboard and back of the screen) or with the mainboard itself. Replace the video cable first - it's inexpensive. If that doesn't solve the problem, the mainboard will need to be replaced (though on an older system like this one, it may make more sense to replace the system rather than the mainboard).
