Dell Studio 15 POST warnings
Good day DELL users.
I have managed to salvage my son's 2010 Dell Studio 1555 after it had a very close encounter with his kitchen floor during a university house party.
I have replaced the screen, hard drive, and CD/DVD-ROM and re-installed the OS (W7 Pro, 64-bit). The CMOS battery holder came away and has not been re-attached.
During POST, I get two beeps and the following (recoverable) errors:
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI on Motherboard
Bus: 09, Device: 01, Function 00
Repeating for functions 01-04.
If I elect to Resume, everything works normally. All devices are fine apart from the multi-card reader (Ricoh manufactured) which doesn't respond at all. Properties (Device Manager) claims that the device isn't taking any resources because it has a problem.
I can live with it. I was just wondering whether it might carry on this way indefinitely (ie. an isolated and benign problem on the system board) or, more likely perhaps, will fail to boot at some time relatively soon.
Of course, if anyone can suggest a software fix that would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
slls

Two beeps indicate a memory issue - try reseating both modules, and try one module at a time in each socket until you isolate the bad module or bad socket.
The likelihood given the broken CMOS battery holder and beep codes is that a new mainboard is required.

Hi.
Thanks for the response. As I said, the machine is performing fine. I did reseat the memory modules (2x2GB) at the time but to no avail. The memory itself has been tested and doesn't report any errors. I'm accepting that the computer might not be stable so not using for anything mission-critical. Given the age of the PC I can't justify replacing the board, so will probably just let it run its course and replace with something contemporary.
Cheers
