Dell Studio 17 - Will not power on..
I have a Dell Studio 17, had it just under a year. When I turn it on, power goes into the laptop and the fan comes on but the screen remains off. The mute light on the control panel is blinking and both the volume up and volume down lights are on. It stays like this for about 20 seconds and then powers off again.
Any ideas?

Try reseating both memory modules (remove and reinstall). If that does nothing, call Dell for warranty repair.

Didn't work, I'll have to ring dell. If I send it off to them though I don't trust them to keep my data safe. If I removed the hard disk would they still fix the hardware or would that void my warrenty?

You can retain the hard drive - however, if you do not have a backup of what's on it, that's dangerous -- you should make one.
