Dell Studio 1749 (2010) RAM Upgrade fails need help

Dear Dell,

I have a Dell Studio 1749 (2010) with Windows 7 Home 64-bit OS installed. CPU is an i5 M 540 2.53Ghz. Running the latest Windows updates. I even upgraded to Windows 10 but restored Windows 7 again to be sure I am doing things as supposed.

Motherboard Model: 0KVMW2
Version: A08

Installed RAM: 2x 2 GB.
Maximum possible: 8 GB (2 x 4 GB modules).

So I went and purchased:

Kingston ValueRAM - DDR3 - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - SO DIMM 204-pin - 1333 Mhz / PC3-10600 - CL9 - 1.5 V - Non-buffered - non-ECC.  614648/KVR13S9S8K2/8 / 0740617217759

But the above RAM modules (brand new) failed to work with my Dell Studio 1749... I booted and it just keeps shutting down after trying to load Windows and re-boots. Starting in safe-modus doesn't work either, system restore doesn't work either. I can however go into the BIOS and it succesfully shows 8 GB of RAM being mounted inside the laptop. But it just refuses to boot. No beeps and no errors are given, at all.

My question: Should the RAM I purchased be compatible with my Laptop & Motherboard or do I need a different brand like Corsair or Crucial? I came across 2 possible RAM kits I could try but I want a professional to confirm / help me.

Possible Crucial RAM Kit: http://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/studio-1749/CT2294751#productDetails

Possible Corsair RAM Kit: http://www.replacedirect.nl/product/p0184860/corsair-laptop-geheugen-8gb-2x4gb-1333mhz.html?subid=101030&prrel=2387195

Please help me :( I really want to use 8 GB of RAM instead of my current 4.

Greetings,

Mike.

Crucial is better for Dell computers. But IMO it is a waste of money to add memory to a 5 yr old laptop. More memory would not make much difference since the rest of the hardware is 5 yr old. Put the money towards replacing the old laptop as soon as it needs any repairs. It was a good idea to stick with windows 7. Wait until you can get it in a new computer with hardware that can run it better.

Thanks for your reply. You probably mean well but money doesnt grow on my back. For a 5 year old laptop the CPU is more than fine as well as other parts still function 100% well. I did not ask you to almost order me to buy a new laptop. My question is about the RAM - nothing else.

Mike, were you able to find one that works?
