Dell inspiron 1545 making an odd sound at random times

Hi everyone. my laptop sometimes makes a humming sound, it last 3 seconds, it almost sounds like if you have your cell phone on the desk set on vibrate and it makes that vibrate sound. anyone have an idea what it might be?

Hi,

Computer may emit an intermittent, high-frequency or constant buzzing noise. The noise can be heard after you power on the system. Increasing, decreasing, or muting the audio will not change the volume of the noise. It could be due to processor activity or from components such as the system fan and the hard disk drive.

I would suggest you to run diagnostics on the computer to isolate the issue. To launch diagnostics, please press and hold the “Fn” key while turning ON the system. Hold it down until the diagnostic starts. Click the link below for additional information about diagnostics and error codes:

In case you do not get any error code, please remove customer replaceable parts one by one to determine which part is making noise.

Customer replaceable parts are:

1. Hard Drive
2. Optical Drive
3. Battery
