Dell inspiron 5521 graphics card help

Hi, i recently bought a dell inspiron 5521 Windows 8 Pro 64bit 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3517U processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)

It has 2 graphics cards...

AMD RADEON HD 8730M

INTEL(R) HD Graphics 4000

I use the laptop for playing games

I have red that its supposed to automatically switch between the 2 cards for the best 1 which is obviously the AMD card

but it doesnt seem to switch, it is only using the INTEL card

Anybody no how i can change it to use the AMD RADEON card?

Hi undead22,

Displays are always exposed to the OS through integrated graphics (Intel graphics 4000). This is the reason it will always show as Intel Graphics 4000 is in use. There is no physical connection between AMD GPU and the display screen. All graphic intensive processes are done by the AMD Radeon HD 8730M graphics card and passed on to the application through the Intel HD Graphics 4000. This is the way the system is designed to function.
Use the switchable graphics control panel to choose which GPU each application uses.

Revert for further queries.

See above.  You use the switching graphics control panel to choose the video chip used on a per-application basis.

No, the video chip cannot be upgraded, though most (not all) games will run.  This isn't a high performance gaming system - you may have to run at reduced video settings.

Hi... i just got one.....

On desktop  right click and select switchable graphics... when it opens  choose the application or game  and change it to high performance under drop down menu... by default it will be on power saving..

It will work for sure....

I have the same problem, on Windows 8.1 - switchable graphics DO NOT WORK. It must be a driver error. And you, DELL lazy-asses didn't bother solving this problem for a long time now !!
