Dell inspiron n5040 randomly shutting down Kernel Power 41 error

hi everyone,

im looking for clarification on a theory i have. so here is the situation.

i am trouble shooting at inspiron n5040 laptop. The laptop will not stay on longer then 10 mins WITH the power cord plugged in. Nor will it stay on on battery power alone. Now the pc tells me that the battery needs to be replaced, so i bought a new battery for this laptop. Same issue except the only difference is that with the new battery it no longer tells me it needs to be replaced.

Now event viewer is telling me that its a kernel Power 41 error. In my experience trouble shooting this its been the power supply is going bad. but since this is a laptop and it has a battery, im not sure how to go about replacing the "power supply" any thoughts???

Hi MMB95

Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.

In BIOS what is the status of the adapter / battery listed? Is the system overheating or the fan not spinning? What is the version of the BIOS updated on the system?

Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address, so that we can check on the system configuration.
