Dell latitude D620 screen blanks on linux on battery

Hello

I have a Dell latitude d620 and when I switch the psu off when running linux the screen blanks and the laptop hangs. It doesnt do this on xp and will run on battery for hours, its a new battery.

It only does this on linux, puppy linux tahr605 and all other puppies I have tried, I even tried lubuntu and it blanked then hung on battery. Daphile linux music server is the same.

Any ideas anyone.

  • Check the A/C adapter's power indicator light, if none, try it on a working A/C outlet or with a known-good A/C adapter.
  • Press the power button and check for any lights on the computer
  • Adjust the brightness of the LCD screen, while the computer is on.
  • Test the Laptop LCD in the System Setup (BIOS).
  • Turn the computer off.
  • Power on the computer and press the F2 key until you see the System Setup (BIOS).
  • Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed within the System Setup (BIOS).
  • Run the Laptop LCD Built-In Self Test (LCD BIST).
  • Try to boot into Enable VGA Mode.
  • If video is seen in the BIOS or the LCD BIST passes, proceed to the next method given in Dell Latitude D620 Manual , else if the video is still not seen in the BIOS or the LCD BIST .
