Dell's Out of Date Thunderbolt 3 Firmware on XPS 15 9550 and XPS 13 9350

The 9550 and 9350 are still stuck on firmware that is 2 major releases behind (NVM16).

The newly released XPS 13 9360 has the latest firmware (NVM18).

All three machines have the exact same Thunderbolt 3 Controller (1575).

When will Dell update our machines with the latest firmware? We've been through absolute *** trying to use the TB15 and other TB3 items. A software update could greatly increase stability for us.

Bump.

Should 9550 and 9350 owners look to other brands for up-to-date firmware or will Dell be updating our machines soon?

TB18 has some serious improvements and features. Are there any updates on when dell will update the XPS line (specifically 9550) to at least this firmware version?

NVM 21 is available for XPS 9560. It's unacceptable that it hasn't been retrofitted for XPS 9550.

The machine is not End of Support, there is no reason for Dell not providing the latest version. This is now 5 versions behind.

I guess we are still waiting? This actually prevents me from using the TB3 port as I intend to use it, really great customer support from Dell here.....

Dude, think before you type. Skylake (which is in the XPS 9550) has a maximum version of NVM 16. Kaby Lake is required for NVM 21.

My apologies - I must have misread my source of information - it might have been referring to a certain manufacturer, not overall. Intel told me that this is incorrect and that there is no such restriction for Skylake. It might just be that most or all of the manufacturers have not bothered to update Skylake past NVM 16.

But I will offer you some other information that might help. I have found that there is one link you need to check the Thunderbolt drivers: www.necacom.net/.../thunderbolt

The 17.1.64.250 version does not even appear on Intel's website - I searched for it using Bing and Google using site:intel.com. Anyway, it installs on my Dell 9365 fine (just verify the digital signatures from Intel and WHQL before installing), and works fine with eGPU, despite it being more recent than the one Dell provides. Perhaps a driver boost would help some people.
