Does Inspiron 700m support resolution 1680x1050 for external monitors?

I am wondering if my laptop an Ispiron 700m supports a resolution of 1680x1050 pixels for an external monitor such as the Dell 2005 widescreen display. The reason I am asking it is that windows in Display->Settings doesn't give this resolution as an option for screen 2 (note that I don't have a monitor connected). It gives resolutions up to 1920x1200 but not the desirable one.

Thanks

If you have the display connected, it will support 1680x1050

I have a 700m running the latest BIOS, video and chipset drivers and the lastest driver for the 2007WFP and i still can't select a resolution of 1680x1050 ???

Any ideas?

Speed_racer_16v I have the same problem. Updated all the latest drivers for 700m and my 2007WFP without joy. The best widescreen resolution is 1280 x 768. You can get up to 1400 x 1050 but it gives you a distorted view.

I've spent the last week chasing Tech Support ... still waiting for a solution.

To answer the original post, the safest bet is to get an external monitor with native resolution that matches existing video driver capabilities ie. 1600 x 1200 or widescreen 1920 x 1200. Don't make the same costly mistake I did. So much for compatibility between Dell products.

I'm afraid it doesn't look good.

Dell Support got back to me and it appears that it is "quite impossible" for the 700m to output a resolution of 1680x1050 as it doesn't support that aspect ratio.

Pretty lame if you ask me, since the 700m is on the list of supported laptops for this monitor.

Dell Tech Support is completely wrong on this issue.

I was able to get my 700m to work with the dell 2007wfp at 1680x1050 briefly. Unforutnately, when i went to re-start my computer i could no longer get the same resolution.

Doesn't really solve the problem, but it does support the notion that Dell's phone and chat support aren't exactly stellar.

I suspect an answer will be released soon.
