Does anything need to be plugged into a Dell Inspiron 8200's modular bay for the computer to work in the first place?
I'm a bit new to the whole laptop thing and so actually find it necessary to ask such a thing. Sorry if the answer to this question seems infuriatingly obvious to anyone.

The reason I'm asking is because I have a laptop someone was throwing out and haven't even been able to turn it on yet, as it came with no adapter or battery. I'm getting an adapter to plug the thing into the wall with, but wonder if that's all that will be required to make it function.

The system should be able to work fine without anything in the media bay. If the notebook still doesn't work after you get a suitable AC adapter it won't be because of the empty Media bay.
