Driver Updates for M90 with NVidia Quadro FX3500m?

We upgraded our two Dell Precision M90 laptops (mobile workstations) to Windows 7 Professional, but have yet to find a graphics driver for these that is appropriate for this with a 3500m. We are experiencing problems with SolidWorks 3D CAD software that worked fine with XP. It looks like the last drivers that were released for this by Dell were in 2007, and that NVidia doesn't support the card because it was an OEM for Dell specifically.

Anyone with a good driver solution for this combination?

Thanks!

Supposedly the Dell Vista driver for this card works OK in Win 7.

I really wish this was supported by NVidia. Dell dropped the ball on this one, while NVidia keeps updating the drivers for cards of this era.

Has anyone gotten a driver with a modified .inf file to work? There are many of those on laptopvideo2go.com, but I have yet to figure out how to make those work.

With older  programs, you can get much improved performance by installing and running under Compatibility Mode. Before installing, right click on the install icon and select XP mode and set the Run as Administrator box. After installation, do the same for the program icon. This works very well for many old programs. You must do this for both the installation and running the program.

If you would like to try this it will work, download nVidia modder here,  http://www.hardwareheaven.com/nvmodtool.php  .

Then find the DESKTOP version of the quadro FX3500(yes desktop version),donwload it but DO NOT INSTALL it,after download run it in the nvidia modder,it will MOD the .inf files for use in the laptop system. After you finish with the MOD you can install and see how it goes.I'm runnin the desktop version driver on my XPS 1730 and it is working fine no flaws (yet) ,.....knocks on wood. There is a possibility that you could lose some nVidia control panel features, but i have not with my system. You can always uninstall if it does not work or is not any better in performance,it's worth a shot.

EDIT: FYI; See here, http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-win7-winvista-32bit-267.79-whql-driver.html  . This is the 400 series quadro laptop drivers as you can see your Quadro FX3500 is supported for this version driver and can be installed too if you would prefer this over the modded desktop.

That's what we're using (the latest Vista driver; from 2007), and it really doesn't work well. We have all sorts of issues with SolidWorks, a 3D CAD program we use everyday. We are trying to figure out whether we can prolong the life of these machines or if we have to move on.

What the what?!?

I just downloaded the latest 267.79 drivers (released 3-29-11) intending to use that Hardware Heaven modder, and it installed without using the modder. I have tried so many of these drivers hoping that they would work, even using the laptopvideo2go modified inf files that I never thought this would work.

Side note; the FX 3500m is not listed under supported cards, but the 3600m is. The FX 3500 is the desktop version and has always been supported. The FX3500m was somewhat unique; it was an OEM card only made for Dell. We'll see how SolidWorks functions with this new driver.

Thanks for your help guys.

No, what I'm saying is that this driver (267.79) worked without any additional program or .inf modification. Even though the 3500m wasn't listed, it cruised right past the "checking compatibility" step.

This is the first time since 2007 that has happened for the m90. I am very happy; my Windows graphics index went from 5.6 to 5.9 and initial work in SolidWorks is going great. This might just delay the purchase of a couple of Precision M6500's.

When you install the 267.79 driver, when it asks to install (quit the install proccess),the nvidia modder link i posted you need to install that app. in a seperate folder.Once you have the 267.79 downloaded go back to the folder you installed the modder and install the driver in the modder folder and run it.Once it completes it should install without problems.

Sorry about the other link i posted apparently i was posting the same linked driver for both desktop mod,and as laptop my fault sorry about that.
