E5550 9.5mm hard drive possible?
Hi
I would like to know if one can install a standard 9.5mm hard drive in the Latitude E5550 laptop? Or only 7mm drives?
thank you

Hi asinger1989,
You can use only 7mm HDD on LATITUDE E5550.

9.5mm and 12mm drives are too thick to go into the case.
This is an issue with Really Large or Really Old Drives.

I use 9.5mm 1TB drives with my Lenovo and want to replace it with Dell - but it is bad news I cannot use my drives. Not going to move to SSD!
So seems that Dell is not good for me :(

It's either mSATA or 2.5" - not both. One drive. There's no optical drive slot so that's not available either.
Look at the 6540 -- the feature set is more what you're looking for.
You give up quite a bit for the sake of the slimmer chassis in the E5550.

well I was looking at the E555o for its IPS panel, not for being slim. In fact, it is not a good choice to have removed the optical drive - it removes too many options for a business customer.
It is like a pest nowadays... either clickpad (hate it), or not upgradeable, no IPS screen (lenovo), or only 7mm drives (or all of them).

Hi
I wonder if the E5550 when bought with a SSD inside, can be "upgraded" to a 7mm HDD - or will it be missing the HDD metal caddy (SSD in different format than a 7mm HDD?).
someone knows?
thanks.

Hi asinger1989,
The SSD configured with this model would be 7mm SSD and compatible caddy would be used.

I use a ssd with my E5550, you can upgrade to the Seagate SSHD 500Gb model.
