External monitor for XPS13 (from 2013)

Hi,

I have an XPS13 on which I started doing most of my work and I really need one or 2 external monitors. I know that by default it only allows for one external monitor.

First question is that I would like to buy a Dell Ultrasharp U2415 however this seems to be a 1980x1200 monitor, would it be ok with the XPS? I think the XPS only outputs 1920x1080 right? Would the monitor support it?

Also, if I want a second monitor what kind of adapter do I need?

Thanks.

Thanks for the useful answer. Further question. Upon connecting the mini display port to 2 (or 3)  display adapter will the laptop monitor still work as an extra display?

Hi pocmatos,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

The XPS 13 (9333/13) supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1080. The monitor would support the maximum resolution of 1920x1080 that is supported by the system. You can purchase a Mini Display Port to Multi Display adapters, if you want to use a second monitor.

Hi pocmatos,

You can get a maximum of three displays that can be active. You can check this link on Configuration 3-Displays.

Hi Dell-Infant R,

It is very frustrating to keep having to change the resolution toggling between my XPS13 and external monitor.  When we use our docking station to connect to the external monitor, unless we want our windows and fonts gigantic, we need to lower the screen resolution choice .. but in a few minutes if we disconnect from the dock & external monitor, we have to restart our XPS13 all over again to be able to reset & resize our screen resolution to view windows correctly on our XPS13 only ... Please HELP!?!  There must be some way to easily move between the XPS13 resolution and the docking/external monitor resolution.

Hi emuyl,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

Please let us know more about the external display issue you’re facing. Provide us the model number of the external monitor and the XPS 13 (9343/9333/9350/L321x/L322x) system you’re using.

If you have tried any steps already let us know.

Dear Infant R,

I've been having a problem with screen flickering on my Dell XPS 13 Signature Edition too. Usually, I don't get it too much, but whenever I try to use my laptop's thunderbolt USB type C port it flickers. I've been trying to connect the laptop to a Thunderbolt USB type C to HDMI adapter which then connects to the TV. The screen of the XPS 13 flickers uncontrollably. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi markyno7,

Request you to update to the latest BIOS on the system. Uninstall the graphic drivers and reinstall the latest one, check the cable on another system. If you’re using windows 10 please refer to this link http://dell.to/1jruRUe.

Hi Infant R,

Thank you so much for your reply.

My Dell XPS 13 model is the 9350 Signature Edition. Should I still follow this procedure? The article says that the procedure is for the model 9343.

Thanks,

Hi Infant R,

Do you think you could send me a link or tell me where to download the latest video driver and wireless driver? Will it be a DELL update or an INTEL update?
