Fan Error Code M1001
Hi. I have a E4310 laptop that has recently been giving me an boot error of M1001 saying there is a fan malfunction. Looking in the BIOS I see several instances in the thermal section saying that Fan 1 has stopped. When I get the error code on boot, I am able to hit F1 to continue the boot. The CPU fan seems to be working ok (eg I hear it running and hot air is coming out of the vent). The BIOS is current.
I presume the CPU fan is about to give it up and will need to be replaced but am leaving this post just in case I'm missing something else.
Thanks!

Hi JSH2410,
Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2qZ05Jr - open the chassis and clean the air vents and fan assembly with a small vacuum cleaner or a can of compressed air. Reapply the thermal grease for the heatsink.
If the overheating persists, then replace the fan assembly.
