Firewire -1394 IEEE Problem Inspiron 8600
This is really killing me! Okay the problem is this: I have a JVC GR-dvl320U DV camera , and a Inspiron 8600 w/ windowsxp sp2, 4pin firewire port included, and to connect the two a Belkin 3ft retractable Firewire cable.
Heres what happens i plug the cable into the camera and then the other end into the laptop and ..... NOTHING!!! no windows "bling noise" no new hardware popup notification, nothing! Now the funny thing is that when i look into the hardware manager I see IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controlllers and the drop down shows :Texas Instuments OHCI Compliant 1394 Host Controller.
But Ive also noticed in the section for Network adapters i see : 1394 Net Adapter why is that there, is this what is blocking my camera , is the laptop mistaking the camera for a network adapter? I dont think so due to the fact that ive unistalled it a few times and it keeps finding ts way back!
Oh and finally when i unplug the cable from the laptop I get the windows "Bling" sound, that usally signafies that a piece of hardware has been removed! what the France!
here is how the device manager looks:
