Hard drive failure

Hi All.

Inspiron 660.

I bought this box with windows 8 pre installed and did not get a disk.

Now the hard drive has failed. Error 0142.

Warranty expired May 03 2015.

I don't mind so much buying a new HD but is there any way to get the OS that i paid for.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Mike

Ouch unlucky just out of warranty. I recommend you get a SSD to use as a Boot Drive as it'll significantly boost your systems performance and perhaps a HDD as a data drive if you have a lot of data:

As for Operating system media, you can download a Windows 8.1 with Update 1 .iso which will work with your Dell Windows 8 OEM license see my guide here:

I highlight the procedure ensuring you install Windows with UEFI and SecureBoot enabled. The main trick is selecting the correct Edition. Try the Windows 8.1 Edition first, if it takes you to the license agreements screen without asking for a product key its the correct edition. On the other hand if it asks you for a product key then its the wrong Edition, so try Windows 8.1 Single Language Edition.
