Heat Issues 2016 m15r3

During normal usage - browsing the internet, watching videos, browsing forums etc, i see temps around 55-65.

In BF1, CPU will sit around 85-90 in a cool 75 degree room. If i don't use a cooling pad, the computer will shut down due to overheating (spiking). all software based hardware tests pass (system support), but it's a bit annoying to have to use a full blown cooling pad. I understand this is a very demanding game.

Is this normal for this machine? my previous i7-6700 laptop ran significantly cooler. I'm wondering if it's worth my time to open it up and check the thermal paste. All fans are also clear of dust and debris, it's a brand new machine.

I think you are referring to the 2016 Alienware 15-R3 and Battlefield 1? You should ask the Alienware users on their board here. I see quite a few post about this issue on multiple platforms here so I doubt that the laptop is the fault. You should also post on the Battlefield 1 Forum to get their opinions.
