Help Needed for my Inspiron 6000 laptop

Help Needed for my Inspiron 6000 laptop.

  • Removed hard drive after it became corrupted and unusable.
  • Reformatted drive ready to install Windows.
  • After putting the drive back into the laptop I get the following.

The power light comes on.
There is hard disk activity (the green light flashes) for about 3 seconds.
The Caps Lock light flashes for about 10 seconds.
The computer turns itself off.
During this time the screen remains dark and their isn't even any power to the DVD drive and am unable to open it using the drive button.

By the way - checked RAM, connections, etc.

Anybody out there have any ideas as to the problem.  I am quite technical with desktop PCs but know very little when it comes to laptops.

If the only light that come on is the CAPS Lock and no Num Lk or Scroll Lk light, I think you may have a bad motherboard...

Thanks

Thanks Irish2009 for the reply.

Anyhow, I've just rechecked the RAM and found that one of the modules wasn't sat properly in its slot - now fixed and laptop fires up fine.

Just need to try and install Windows without the DVD - the drive doesn't appear to be working - at least it's not recognising the Windows disc I am using to install the OS.
