is it in the upper left? near hard drive? I have the same high pitched squeal and buzzing. Also the hard drive status light keeps flickering endlessly.

exactly. Seems when ubuntu is running - it was absent. Win 7 - enables it.
HDD led flickrs periodically 2 times in second.

they replaced it. And the sound is still there. I give up.

I have the same problem, i got the laptop Friday and i didn't boot under Ubuntu, just in Windows 7.
