How Turn ON Wireless on Inspiron 1420

I have an Inspiron 1420 and suddenly the wirless has stopped working.

It will not pick up any wireless so it is not my router.

When I diagnose it my computer tells me that my wireless capability is turned off.  The switch on front no longer works.  I have moved it back and forth and nothing happens.

How can I turn on my wireless capability without the switch?

I have even tried but no help :-(

if you have window 7 install click on the start button then click on control panel there you will see network and internet click on that, under network and sharing center click on view network status and task, on the left click on change adapter settings, look for your wireless network connection (like mines it's' mack) right click on it and then click on enable and that should turn it back on. hope this helps

Thanks for the response.

I have windows 7 installed, so followed what you said, but still no luck.

When I right click on the wireless network connection under change adapter setting, it shows me already enabled (on right click gives option to disable).

So the wireless adapters icon says "Not connected" but the it also has a red cross icon.

If I try to search my wifi, it just doesn't list it. Pls not all my other devices seamlessly connect with my wifi router.

Please help!!! Getting sick of working through wired net :-(

orcabhinav,

The 169.254 IP ADDRESS tell me there is a router/modem communications problem.

Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart the computer and try to connect.

What happens?

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Click on Advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. Change Antenna Diversity from Auto to Aux.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

orcabhinav,

Did you try F2?

Did you try Fn and F2?

Did you try the wireless switch in the front of the computer?
