How do I turn off the touchpad

I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop. The touch pad is very annoying. How do I disable this device?

Hello DanAugiii,

The Device Select section of the Dell Touch-pad Properties has options to enable or disable the touch pad.

-- Click Start.
-- Click on Control Panel.
-- Select Dell Touch-pad Properties.

-- Click Device Select.
-- Disable the touch-pad.

-- Click OK.
-- The touch-pad would be disabled.

Please write back for further questions.

Thanks, but there is no item on the Control Panel for “Dell Touch-pad Properties”. The closest thing I have in Control Panel is “Mouse” and although the touch-pad appears there is no way to disable it. This is not a new machine. I have had it for almost two years. It is running Windows 7. There is no dialog that resembles the example you gave.

Hi DanAugiii,

In this case we need to install the Dell Synaptics Touch-pad drivers. Once installed, restart the computer and check in Control Panel for the Touch pad Properties and follow the steps mentioned in my previous post.

Please try the steps and write back with results.
