INSPIRON N5040 trackpad disable - Windows 7

the mousepad is super inconvenient and constantly screws up my typing.
there is a hotkey on the f3 button which does not work
i cannot seem to find the touchpad on the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound ( > Devices and Printers [ > mouse > hardware = only shows the mouse i have plugged in)

i honestly would be fine with uninstalling any software that makes that little bit of computer function but i can't even seem to do that
