I was told that I "toasted" my last hard drive on my laptop because I left it "on" all the time. Is there a way I can prevent "toasting" another, without closing down all my applications?

Hi lmariehenson,
The electronic items are bound to go bad with time and usage and do not have a life time warranty.
You may put the system in sleep or hibernation if you do not want to shut it down; however it is advised to turn off the system.
Also, you may keep a backup of your important data to ensure you do not lose any data due to such issues.
