Hi vforvega

Welcome to the community.

If I understand you correctly you already have an Inspiron N5110 and you wish to upgrade to a SATA 3 Solid State hard drive.

I wish to inform you that this particular model only supports SATA 2.

Thank You

Naveen

It is SATA 6G -- the original reply is not correct.

Ty EJN63,

I bought 128gb OCZ Vertex 4 as you said it supports sata 3. The worst thing is, the port for dvd drive is sata2. So even you have a caddy drive, you have to replace mechanical hdd with ssd (if you have n5110 you probably know how hard to replace hdd)

anyways i have ssd now and i am really happy with the result. Here is the video;

Hi, I have a N5110 also (Core i7) and i am thinking to put a SSD but it seems that the replacement of the HDD is a pain in the a... so i am thinking of the solution of the caddy frive. Anyone did it ? Thx

Hi Hakkeem,

Hard drive of your computer is not a customer replaceable unit. Your computer has one 7-pin / 4-pin eSATA connector. If you want to install another SATA hard drive on your computer, you can do that by using the caddy which can help you connect another hard drive to the CD/DVD drive slot. There are various products available which can be used for the same.

Please reply in case you have any further questions.

I think if you search the forums, others have tried and found the answer to be, no.

Hello,

Thanks for replying quickly.

I actually ordered a caddy for putting a SSD in the DVD drive slot but i am wondering about the SSD performance on the DVD slot...

If i installed Win 7 on the SSD after the replacement, is it possible to boot on the SSD and use the HDD as the second hard drive ?

Thanks

Hakkeem

Hakkeem, you can always remove the existing HDD and replace it with SSD..(But note it will void your warranty) Plus you can use the caddy in place of the standard CDRom Drive and put the original HDD in the caddy.  There are plenty of video on Youtube of how to remove the HDD.

Hope it helps..

Yes, it will work - with Windows (but not Linux).

Bear in mind this model is not easy to work on when it comes to changing a hard drive.

That's the replacement procedure.
