Inspiron 1000

Anybody ordered an inspiron 1000 lately?

If so I would be very grateful if you answered a question for me.  Did it ship on the date they speculated it to ship or was it delayed at all?

Thanks in advance

I suggest you don't buy a 1000 notebook. They are the bottom of the line/barrel and not very good. NO I do not own one and I never would. Save your money and buy something better.

I bought a 1000 in July.  It was shipped as promised, and has worked fine.  It is used for spreadsheets and basic wordprocessing.  I think more money would have been a waste.  As always, it depends on what you are going to use it for.

bestbuy has a nice little celeronM on sale for $500 tomorrow ...  dell can't go dirt cheap like the others ... i think they make a better product, but they will never be as cheap

for very basic uses, I can't recommend them

I don't know about Dell not being able to go dirt cheap.  When I bought the I-1000, it was the cheapest I could find.  CompUSA or Best Buiy had nothing that compared price-wise.

It meets my needs.

it's cheap for a dell, but lower-end notebooks at mainline stores (best buy and circuit city in particular) are starting to commonly be seen for $650, if not for less

I bought an 1000 the week before Thanksgiving. It was supposed to ship on Wed. with 2 day shipping, I foolishly thought it would be here on fri or sat. The tracking number that I got was not updated until Monday of the following week. I then received the laptop on Tues. If not for the free shipping, I might have been a little upset!

After surfing for a month or so, I'm still happy with it. Battery life is not very good but what can you expect for $599!

I got my Inspiron 1000 in June this year.  Battery time was about an hour - doing Word and Excel.

I contacted support and they sent a new battery, I updated the bios and now the battery life is 1.5 hours.  I bought an Inspiron 2650 in January 2003 and the battery life is 2.5 hours.

The info on the 8 cell battery says battery life of 2 hours.
