Inspiron 1505 Bios Version

did anyone else notice that the bios version for the Inspiron 1505 went from A05 to A06 and now back to A05? Also, is there any danger in installing the now recommended A05 version?

TIA

I didn't notice, but it's not that uncommon for dell to pull bios releases if they determine there are problems with it.  Usually they catch the problems before release, but not always.

If a critical problem is fixed in a later version they tend to remove all previous versions that had the problem as well -- so it's sometimes good to store the previous versions locally in case you ever need to go back and dell is no longer hosting the file (as 600M users found out ;p)

I am one of those who noticed the release of A06, who updated the BIOS setup to A06 because DELL warned it was an urgent update and who also noticed after the update that DELL went back to A05! I am still waiting for some explanations from one of the moderators: if I updated to A06, should I downgrade to A05 urgently?

Anyway, I guess a downgrade from A06 to A05 is not an easy task with the hard disk method and without having a floppy disk arround.

best way is to use a dos boot CD (google if you don't have one).  include the flash image on the CD and run it from dos.

personally, if you see no issues, I wouldn't bother.  Likely A07 will say why A06 was pulled ;p

Well, it seems like Dell has lowered the Critical status of A05 from Urgent to Optional.

I've read at tweakxp.com that you can improve performance by moving the pagefile to a separate drive. E:\ is my usb drive.

I downloaded version A06 and A05. I currently have A06 installed and A05 on my usb drive. Anyone know how to move the pagefile from C:\ to e:\? I've tried doing it in safe mode to no avail. Thanks.

why do you want to move the pagefile to e?  is e your flash drive?

while that maybe somewhat true, moving the paging file to a removable drive is a terrible idea.  it's going to be slower than a HD and not as reliable -- you do not want your page file disconnecting itself.
