Inspiron 15R SE 7520 video card not working after Windows 8.1 update

The internal graphics are Intel HD 4000 and the graphics card is a Radeon HD 7730M. After updating to Windows 8.1 almost everything worked, except it only uses the on-board Intel graphics. Now the resolution isn't right and parts of the Windows interface look rather poor in comparison.

What I've tried:

  • Uninstalling the video card drivers
  • Re-installing the Dell drivers for the video card
  • Installing the latest beta drivers directly from the AMD website
  • Disabling the on-board Intel graphics
  • Uninstalling the on-board Intel graphics

So now what?

Hello all,

After much googling, got this Dell site that has Windows 8.1 drivers for Inspiron 15R 7520 SE:

http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/inspiron-15r-se-7520.html#TopSolutions

After installing the AMD & Intel HD4000 drivers for Win8.1  from the above site , the screen's fuzziness disappeared and Catalyst is working again !

Please spread this link around!!!!  Very Weird Dell reps did not provide this link. Their advise of uninstalling drivers / stopping windows update does not help.

So based on the suggestion to turn off windows automatic updates I'm guessing the problem is because Windows 8.1 is trying to install an update to the Intel HD 4000 graphics adapter that breaks it?

Dell's support for the 15R SE 7520 is horrible. I hope posts like this will make them realize that it needs a new graphics driver update ASAP. Between the random black screens, graphical crashes, and Windows 8 issues, it's just sad.

Use this link http://dell.to/1d1tA0n to install Intel video drivers on the system.

Restart the system and install AMD video drivers from this link http://dell.to/167MrAp.

So, I tried this, but when I tried to install the Intel drivers, the installation told me that I did not meet the minimum requirements for those drivers.  And yes, I am using a 15rse (7520). Is there another set of Intel video drivers I should be using? Thanks

Same problem, the Dell drivers do not work

Im having the same problem.

I tested EVERYTHING. I installed several diferent drivers for Intel HD Graphics 4000 and AMD Radeon HD 7730M. Obviously i tried the drivers that Dell's site recommend me. I also tried the drivers that Dell's Support sent me (yes, i called them and the analist sent me the links by e-mail). I also tried different combinations of various drivers given by AMD (including beta drivers). Im fully commited to this in the last 48hrs (since win 8.1 came out).

New drivers are necessary to make this work!

Dont tell ppl to reinstall drivers or check for updates. We are not morons.

Just solve the problem and give us the link to download the new drivers.

Dell had months to do it (since the release of Win 8.1 preview) but its clear that Dell doesnt care about it.

Same problem here,

DELL-AMIT V

I've noticed that the drivers you linked to are for windows 7. Is this intentional or not?

There are windows 8.1 drivers available but I haven't tried them using the method you described. Which ones should I try?

Well I tried getting everything working on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 with the same results. I agree that the drivers need to be updated. I was able to rollback the Intel HD 4000 driver to what it was before the update, but it still doesn't work. It is rather bothersome that this wasn't worked out while 8.1 was in the preview stage. Actually the problem is completely on Dell here, the driver has technically been outdated for nearly a year now.

If you had previously tried to update your Intel HD 4000 drivers even with regular Window 8 it would cause the same problems. Now it's just too little too late by Dell.

Again, i've tested everything, but, if there is someone out there with several hours to spend in this attemping, i can post some links for u:

All drivers for Inspiron 15R SE 7520

ftp://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/inspiron-15r-se-7520-all.html

(u can also go to dell website and download all this *** there, u may find few more recente updates but they dont work either)

The latest drivers from AMD

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx

(u can try all of them including the betas, nothing works)

U can also try this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbiX-bgMrNk

(it wont work, actually, it will completely bug ur screen, ull have to boot on safe mode to delete this driver cuz ur screen is gonna be black)

Where did you download version 10.18.10.3316 from?

Did you uninstall the previous drivers first?

Can you please elaborate further? Thank you

For the Intel HD 4000 I have the "intel(R) Graphics HD 4000" driver version 10.18.10.3316 installed. I found it in Device manager driver list. As for the "Radeon HD 7730M" I downloaded this driver http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows+7+-+64

Everything runs great so far on my Inspiron 15R SE 7520 - Windows 8.1 and Catalyst control centrer is working too.

After updating to windows 8.1 I had a some weird conflict with my video drivers. So I uninstall both of them first.

Then In Device manager I right clicked the Intel HD 4000 and chose "update driver software" - "Browse my computer for driver software" - "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"  You will see a list of drivers, pick "intel(R) Graphics HD 4000" That should be the 10.18.10.3316 driver.
