Inspiron 15z "no battery detected"

Just recently after charging my Dell powered on and the battery icon was read. It says there is no battery detected, yet it is able to stay on. Any idea how to change the icon? Or what is exactly up with it? Would be nice to know as I JUST got this computer 3 weeks ago.

Hi KBake06,

Inspiron 15z comes in two different models, Inspiron 1570 and Inspiron 5523. Please share the exact model.

You may check the status for the battery in the system setup.

  • Turn on (or restart) your computer
  • When the DELL logo appears, hit the F2 key about 6-7 times immediately
  • Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab and check ‘Battery Health’.

Also, check if the Adapter is being recognized. Check the status for ‘AC Adapter Type’ on the ‘Main’ tab.

I would suggest you to drain the residual power from the laptop:

  • Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer.
  • Remove the adapter and then the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.

Reconnect the battery and the adapter and then turn on the system.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist you further.

It is the 5523. I will try what you said after I complete my school work.

Thank you
