Inspiron 1720, Vista, no sound out headset jack
Hi, thanks in advance for help.
My Inspiron 1720 has stopped sending sound down the headset jack for some reason. Sound works fine out of the internal speakers, and the speakers I'm plugging into aren't broken.
Auto sensing on the mic jack *is* working.
As far as I understand, the problem could be physical with the auto sensing on the jack, or software. Is there any way I can go about nailing down the problem?

Usually when the problem is in the Sense pin the speakers don't work but the headphones do. Sometimes your symptoms can be resolved by reinstalling the Sigmatel audio driver.

Thanks for that info Jim.
I have reinstalled the driver, but no improvement unfortunately.
