Inspiron 5100 power adapter compatible with Studio 1535?

Here's what you can do. Look at both Power Supplies. My 5100 says "Output: 20 V 4.51A". That means it provides 20 Volts DC at up to 4.51 Amps to the computer. If your Power Supply for the 1535 is 20 Volts and 4.5 Amps OR LESS, it will work just fine.

I suppose you checked the jack already to see if it fits. While it is possible for the voltages at the three pins to be different, this is rarely the case. You cna check them with a cheep volt meter if you want to. You can get one for around $15 at Radio Shack, Micro Center or most Electronic Supply Stores.

This is kind of lame, but no, I did not check to ensure that the jack fits, and now that I have I know it won't work :emotion-42:. Thanks (rather belatedly!) for your help.

I have the similar issue. I have dell inspirion 1300 laptop and I want to use another brand adaptor ehich is 20 V and 3.25 Amp.  The actual volt I need is 19 V.,  just 1 Volt more. Should I use this?

If it's not a Dell adapter, be wary - it will not charge the battery.

Thanks, battery needs change so no need to charge. I can use adaptor only. Isnt it enough the volt and amp being correct?
