Inspiron 5100 powers up, then shuts off after a few minutes HELP!

Hey everyone,

I have a friend who owns an Inspiron 5100, which he accidentally spilled some water over the keyboard.  He had taken it to a friend to clean and dry it out.  The system turns on, however it shuts off after five minutes under AC.  Would anyone know what might be the problem?

We already tried reseating the memory, hard drive, and etc.  Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you!

Yeah, it would seem as if it is the motherboard.  Unfortunately, no he doesn't have any warranty left on the system.  I wonder how it could be the motherboard though, considering it turns on still.  Weird.

Thank you

Thanks boppo,

I'll give it a shot.  It's good to see familiar faces on the forums still from a while back :)
Thanks again.  I'll keep you all updated.

If there's any other tips, please feel free.

Thank you,

But I do not see point C.  Also, it seems more like a reason to get rid of a laptop, instead of giving the necessary means to repair one.

no problem, but if you do a clean install you must install the chipset first, then the rest of the drivers.
