Inspiron 9300 Video Card (1600x1200) with UXGA (1920x1200)??

I am going to be buying a 9300 with a UXGA high reolution pannel (1920x1200) and I was looking at the video standard ATI® Mobility RADEON X300 but it only has a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200, Am I going to be loosing resolution with this stantard video card? A bit confused. Thanks for your time

So to get the max resolution from the screen I would have to get the card for the extra 256MB NVIDA® GeForce for a extra $200? Would there be much difference from the quality loss from the GeForce 1920 to the RADEON X300 1600? Is it worth the 200...weird the 2 out of the 3 video cards offered do not even support the UXGA panel's resolituon. Hm... I dont know what to do.

if that's the max supported res of the card, then yes

Are you sure that this is really the maximum resulution? I would assume that this it is only for external monitors via vga or dvi!

1600x1200 isn't even widescreen, possible resolutions for the Inspiron 16:10 display are 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1440x900,...

If the X300 really doesn't support 1920x1200 (ask tech support!) then you should definately go for the 6800Go! Even switching to 1680x1050 results in a much worse image, since it must be resized and then gets blurry. And the 6800 rocks by the way, I can even play new games such as do*m3, hl2 at high resolutions very smooth...

I called tech support and they said that the max resolution for the x300 is 1600x1200, I told tech support I didn't really play many games but if there would be a difference in quality since it was a lower resolution, he said he wouldn't really notice a difference and presonaly he wouldn't spend the 200 more..So I ordered the x300 thinking of the 200 I was saving... but now I think I am regreting not getting the Go, but I dont really play any games but I hope images are crisp...Anyone have any imput on the x300 on a uxga screen? Also anyone find any pictures of these "true-life" screens.. I have been searching for images but no one seems to have these computers yet...not even any reviews yet on Cnet!

The wuxga display is one of the new "glossy" ones, as seen on most new 17" laptops. It's surface is a bit shiny/reflecting, like all glossy ones,  but has very good brightness an contrast! And you can view it from almost any angle without problems... I'm really happy with it!

Some people complained about the 9200's display, good that they replaced it with this new one!

Well I called dell again, they said that the Radeon X300 would not even support the 1680x1050 resolution so I said the heck with that whats the point in having a high resolution screen if you cant use it to the max.. So I changed the order to the Nvidia 6800...Cant wait to get it.

You would think their online selection form would be more clear about the required video card to make use of the max resolution.  I noticed the same thing when shopping around in the screen / video card section.  Actually, I can not believe they even allow someone to purchase the UXGA with a card that can not do 1920x1200 or even 1680x1050.  It should be a bundled option for $300.

I just ordered my 9300 w/ UXGA and 6800 video card.  Now I just have to wait almost three weeks to get it in my sweaty little hands.

Congrats on your purchase.  It sounds like all the issues with the 9200 have been fixed in this product.

The ATI card in our system will support 1920 x 1200. The ATI X300 card uses what ATI calls LCD-EE:

Seems some of the Dell techs could use some additional training, or a new
career!

Can someone from Dell please explain why the 'Help Me Choose' / 'Learn More' section under Video Cards for the 9300 states both the 64MB and 128MB versions of the ATI X300 card will only do a max resolution of 1600x1200?  It is very misleading and leads people to believe they must buy the 6800 in order to get full 1920x1200 resolution out of the UXGA displays.

I did check ATI's website and it confirms the ATI X300 will support 1920x1200 resolution.

I did look on ATI's site and it did say..."MOBILITY™ RADEON® X300 also supports the latest high resolution and wide-screen notebook displays with ATI’s new LCD Enhanced Engine (LCD-EE™) display engine." Well if the 64 MB ATI MOBILITYTM  RADEON®  X300 does work with the UXGA (1920x600) ...why when customizing the i9300 under "more info" on the video cards it says...64 MB ATI MOBILITYTM  RADEON®  X300 - maximum resolution 1600x1200? Dell is confusing people and should look into changing it to tell people that it will not only support resolutions of 1600x1200 and will work with 1920x1200.

Dell?

 Thanks Tim.
