Inspiron error code 0142 (01APR2017)
laptop fault condition. it began a seq. of ear pierce sounds. followed on screen repair option (may take an hour +). no chg. rebooted F12, diag error 0142, validation code 88380
any ideas? I think the 0142 is the hard drive but I don't know what the validation code means.
purchased 29NOV2016,,, beyond the 90 day warranty, mail in support : (

On the vast majority of models, the hard drive is user-replaceable. You should have a minimum 1-year warranty. Contact Dell with the exact error code and validation number and they'll likely send you a replacement drive -- or, if if the model has a non-user replaceable drive, they'll arrange for the depot repair.
