L701x Power cuts out when waking from sleep with or without mains plugged in

Hi

Recently my xps 17 has started cutting out when waking from sleep.  However when powering on using the button it works fine.  For a few weeks previous the whole system was freezing when waking from sleep but I just assumed that was an issue with windows 8 and/or my ssd.  This may be related to the current issue.  Has anyone experienced similar issues or any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I request you to flash BIOS and update video driver from the link given below:

Click on the link below, enter the system service tag and click Submit. Select the Operating system from the drop down list to get drivers for your system model:

Restart the system after each update. Reply with the status after the drivers update.

Hi

So I tried the bios update but I already have the A10 bios so the utility wont reflash it with the same update

I went ahead and rolled back the video drivers anyway to the official Dell one but no change as it still cuts out when waking from sleep on Windows 7 & 8 which leads me to believe its not an OS driver problem.  The win 7 hdd would be the original copy shipped with the laptop and only has the official drivers installed.

Is there another way to flash the BIOS?

Hi andrew12983476,

Thank you for the update. Since the system has the latest BIOS, you don’t have to re-flash it again.

Please perform clean boot and check. Find the link below for the instructions:

Also run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system. Refer to the link for reference:

Reply with the status.

Performed a clean boot but problem still persists.

Ran diagnostics from BIOS but all passed and laptop still cuts out on wake.

Also ran Dell diagnostic utility on windows and every single test passed too

The only thing I can think of is that i noticed when in sleep mode the centre/ right of the laptop got very hot (keyboard was very warm).  I have only noticed this recently.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for trying the suggested steps.

In this situation I would have replaced heat sink and fan of the system. Let me know the system is under warranty. Click on the link below to check to check the warranty of the system. Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

In case the system is out of warranty, let me know the region you belong to, to provide the contact information for paid service.
