Laptop Not Working on Battery

Hi, I was given a laptop for Christmas and it's been working fine on battery. But, for some reason it stopped working on battery even though the battery meter in bios says it's 75%. It seems to work fine on the adapter. Can anyone tell me what happened?

Hi HannasMom52,

Follow below steps to resolve the issue:

  • Please ensure that the battery is fully charged.
  • Remove the Battery & disconnect the AC Adapter from the system and hold the power button down for 5 seconds, to discharge “Static Flea Power”.
  • Reseat the battery on the Notebook System, then try to power on the system.
  • Remove the Battery from the Notebook system and try powering on the system using only the AC Adapter

Also, check with the battery. Remove the Adapter and Power on the computer and check if the computer powers on with the battery.

For computers with Windows 7, right-click the battery icon in the lower right-hand corner, click Dell Extended Battery Life Options, if that is not an option proceed to Step 3.

Click the Battery Health tab.

Make note of the message on the page, if anything other than "Your battery is performing normally", the battery should be replaced.

Check the Battery Health in the BIOS,restart the computer and  tap F2 on  Dell logo. Check the Battery Health in the BIOS. Make note of the message on the page, if anything other than Your battery is performing normally", the battery should be replaced.
