Laptop shuts down.

I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop. The laptop will boot up, but after about 5-6 minutes, it shuts itself off. I changed the battery on the motherboard, and this allowed the laptop to stay powered up for an extra couple of minutes. Then it shut down again. repeated attempts to turn back on failed, as it shuts itself down within 2 minutes, before the boot process is finished.

Hi,

To troubleshoot the issue, help me understand if the computer displays an error message when the computer shuts down.

Run the diagnostics on the computer to isolate the hardware. To run the diagnostics on the computer please follow the below mentioned steps.

  1.  Shut down the computer.
  2.  Press and hold the FN key and then power on the computer. Release the Fn key when the diagnostics screen pops up.
  3. Let the diagnostics complete and check if it gives any error message.

If there is no error message then restart the computer and press F8. select an option that says disable automatic restart on system failure and check if gives an error message.

If it gives an error message please provide the error message.

Also check if the computer is getting overheated?

Please do write back to us with the results for the next course of action.
