Latitude D820 AC Adapter Error Message

I get the following error if I use the power cable from my old D505

WARNING: A 65W AC Power Adapter has been detected, preventing optimal system performance.

Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see warning messages again.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.

This is fine -  but my question is, what optimal system performance am I missing out on if I do use the lesser watt power cable?

IIRC the D8x0 series will power the system but not charge the battery on a 65W PSU, and you may get reduced processor speed.

Hi,

The latitude D8X0 systems need a 90 Watt AC adapter to charge up the battery.

If you use a 65 Watt AC adapter, the system starts up normally, and processor works at 100%, BUT using a 65Watt AC adapter does not charge up the battery.

These 90 Watt AC adapters also work on a APR (advanced port replicator) and a D-Dock (-ingstation) using other D-series latitudes/precisions.

Good luck finding the correct AC ^_^

When customizing a D820 on the Dell Online Store site, it says:

Please connect a Dell 90W adapter for best system operation. If you purchase the 65W Dell Combination Adapter, your system will operate slower and the battery may take more time to charge.

So that power adapter should charge the notebook, it will just take longer.
