MULTI-TOUCH SCREEN GLASS CRACKED
HI, NEW TO THE FORUM, 1st POST. I HAVE A XPS 15 (L502X) WITH THE MULTI-TOUCH SCREEN.I HAD THE SCREEN REPLACED BY DELL LAST YEAR($468). WELL, DROPPED AGAIN AND THE GLASS SHATTERED, DISPLAY WORKS BUT NO TOUCH SINCE GLASS SHATTERED. CAN THE TOUCH-SCREEN GLASS DIGITIZER BE REPLACED SEPERATE FROM THE SCREEN, OR DOES IT COME AS A COMPLETE UNIT. I SEE IT IS ATTACHED WITH SOME SORT OF ADHESIVE TAPE. CAN THE GLASS BE PURCHASED AFTERMARKET OR FROM DELL FOR SELF INSTALL, OR IS THIS ANOTHER DELL REPAIR. THANKS IN ADVANCE.:emotion-1:

Quick search turns up nothing about a screen replacement - it likely is a single unit.

I've had my Dell 15z Touchscreen only a couple of months. Today I noticed a scratch on screen....then I noticed a large crack in bottom
right hand of screen!!! I've owned laptops since 1990...never had a screen crack. I'm disabled and this laptop sits on my desk and
has never been moved off....no chance it was dropped...I am only one who lives here. I am stunned!

Hi dkewald,
Please send me a private message with the picture of the LCD screen and the service tag of the system so that I can check what can be done. Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

I am sending this message in regards to a recently purchased Dell laptop. It is a touch screen that has never been dropped, the glass has developed cracks, and I am not able to get any help from the dell support team and no true understanding of why this has happened. I have purchased at least Six Dell Computer in my life time and up until this point would have recommended them. I also own two Apple I pads which also come with the touch screens, No problem with them at all. I have also asked to speak to someone in the USA since they were unable to understand and hear my problem effectively; I was told that it was not possible. This Computer was purchased for the AFL-CIO Central Labor Council; it does not and has not gotten a lot of use, only for monthly reports. As I stated earlier, No physical damage to the laptop, only a cracked glass screen. I don’t think that I am the only one having this problem.

I had the same problem with a Organizational Laptop. I don't even use it for personal use and have never dropped it. I sent a letter in regards to it. This is it. I have somewhat similar issue - laptop was fine for three months and today I noticed a crack on the glass (LCD still works). Tech support claims it is accidental damage, but there were no accidents! I am considering returning it or charging back through bank if dell refuse to take their faulty laptop back.

I have also had a similar problem. My laptop was fine for the first couple months then I noted a small crack near the pre-existing hole at the top of the screen (think its for mic input) the crack slowly radiated downward and outward in multiple cracks over the next several days rendering it useless for touchscreen ability. I am still under warranty so hopefully Dell will honor replacing/fixing since this is definitely a quality issue.

I am having the same issue. After a only a few months (still under warranty), the screen started cracking for no reason. It has never been dropped or stepped on. This is a joke. It is obviously a faulty product. I called them yesterday and they want to charge me almost $300. I told them I might as well buy a new laptop from someone else. Anybody decide to replace just the touchscreen and fix it themselves? Since it's a touchscreen, do you have to buy an entire panel or just a new screen? Thanks.

I am having the same issue. I bought this Inspiron 15R on 02/13/14, shipped to me on 2/18/14. And I noticed a crack at the lower left corner of the screen yesterday, within 4 weeks! I cannot recall any dropping, pressing or applying pressure as they claim might have happened. I called the customer service last night. After holding the line and getting transferred from one place to other for more than a hour, they say it is beyond 21 days for return and the warranty doesn't cover since they consider it a physical damage. It is disgusting.
I had purchased a Dell XPS for my nephew in July 2012. That had its screen cracked on its own after few months in early 2013. That time the technical support willingly fixed it at no cost. I mentioned that incident to them and offered to provide the serice tag#. But they were not ready to listen.

I am having the same issue. I have had an Inspiron 7737 for roughly a month, and have had the lower left corner (same exact spot as you) and I am being told it is "accidental damage". How is it accidental damage if the crack was caused by closing the lid, which is just normal operation of the laptop? That's like a guy pressing the gas pedal of his car only for it to blow up, and the car manufacturer saying it blew up because he pressed the pedal wrong. I have never dropped or put weight on it. I have disabled the touch screen function so it works for now, but it is asinine that so many people are having this issue, and Dell keeps putting blame it's customer for it's products flaws.

I have 7737 Dell touch laptop and just found the crack today after 1 year of use. I've been extremely careful using my laptop and I can not reconcile what went wrong. No physical damage, no sign of traumatic violence, all screws intact, just the screen. never dropped it, nor pressed it too hard. The crack was at the lower right of the screen. Upon reading all of your experiences, I am a little bit relieved that its not the user's fault but because of a product flaw. The thing is I want to use it in its full function. I need advice on how to replace the touch screen and how can Dell help at all. I am really, so disappointed. I need my laptop so badly coz I am studying.

No manufacturer will cover a cracked screen under warranty. If you purchased complete care insurance with the system, call Dell -- otherwise, you will need to replace the glass/LCD/cover assembly (the chances of being able to replace just the glass without destroying the rest of the assembly are very slim).
This is the part you'll need:

t seems i'm not the only one with this cracked screen complaint. i also have a parctically new dell (an all in one system with touch screen) that without dropping it developed a craked screen. i also had a complaint regarding the flimsy kick stand on this sustem. when i contacted dell the representatives were patronizing and not at all helpful. i unfortunately had to move from the usa to italy while still fighting with dell over this promblem amd it is still unresolved.
dell insisted i pay close to $700 for the repair of the screen. apart from being nearly the orginal cost of the computer i thought it ridiculous that they did not honor my warrenty.
in italy they are few pc stores that have ever seen a computer like this one much less know how to fix. the dell reps i spoke to here are nicer but apart from advising me to buy the screen, which not one seem to be able to give me an accurate price for, they can do nothing. so im stuck with a $900*, three month old computer that i cannot use and cannot get resonable help from the manufacuters on how to fix.

I have the same issue with a Inspiron 17 5749. I called and Dell support said it was physical damage and not covered. The laptop was never dropped or abused. This is a ridiculous as it appears to be a a defect. The crack happened about a month after purchase and it is now growing.
Did you?:
1. Get a Glass Digitizer. I have been advised that this item is not allowed to be wholesaled. Looks like you have to spend $500 with Dell to get it replaced. Ridiculous.
2. If you fixed it yourself, get instructions on replacement.
