Max CPU support for Inspiron 2650

Hi,

I have inspiron 2650 notebook with Intel Pentium 4-M 1.4Ghz.
I was just wondering what is the max CPU it can support?
I want to upgrade the CPU, but just want to make sure the max CPU it can support, so I can buy the fastest one.

Thank you

Thanks.

You know where I can get a hold on one of those?
Also, will the VGA card be upgradeable? Mine is currently GeForce 2Go 16M. Thinking to upgrade this also.

Oh, I;m from Australia

For the Mobile P4 2.4GHz, have a look at the pricegrabbers link following, I narrowed it down to the merchants that ship internationally. All the prices are in US$. Unfortunately there are not many places in Australia that sell them online for a reasonable price, so shipping it from elsewhere is preferable.

Unfortunately, there are not many options available to you for video card upgrade. The best card that you can get in the i2650 is the GeForce2 go 32MB... which is the same of yours except with more onboard memory. This is part number 9T011 if you want to order it from Dell.

Cheers,

Phooaaaarrr!!! Postage would cost me $58.71 US!!!!! That's crazy!
I might give Dell Australia a call tomorrow and see how much they sell :D

The max CPU that the model supports is a Mobile P4 2.6GHZ-m (400 MHz FSB), but the price of that part is prohibitively expensive. The Mobile P4 2.4GHz-m is a much sweeter price and there is very little performance difference between the two..... so I recommend you go for that instead of the 2.6.

Did you try a couple of other sellers there? It won't neccessarily cost that much, the calculation on that page is an estimation (you have to go to each site and see how much they will charge) but it definately won't be as cheap as a package by Australia Post within the country... but you had to expect that didn't you?

Doesn't matter, once you see Dell's price I can assure you that you'll be back looking at that page .

HI Sakor, I know this thread is quite old now, but I have just started to read the forum as i am just starting to consider changing the base spec of my 2650. You mentioned that the 2.4 and 2.6 Mobile P4 with 400FSB were compatible with the 2650, would that mean that I could stick with the stock heatsink+fan of the laptop if it was supplied with a 1.4g cpu, or would i have to change it in anyway?

Also since I am removing the cpu, i would need to use some sort of thermal compound for the new cpu, I have with me Artic Silver 3 Premium Silver compound which i have thus far used on all my desktop machines, would something like that be ok or would you advise against it, and if so what would you recommend.

Thanks for the reply
