Max resolution problem
Just bought an Inspiron 7720 17R SE, was a display model and did not come with a manual. I did some checking online and according to reviews I've read about it, the max resolution should be 1920 x 1080, but when I go in and try to change my screen resolution it says the max is 1600 x 900. The desktop is using the built-in HD graphics, but even when I play Diablo 3, which uses the Nvidia GT650 card, the max resolution in the options is still 1600 x 900. Is there something I need to do to enable this mode? I bought it at Best Buy and they had to remove all their software and install fresh software, so I don't know if that could be the problem.

If it were that easy I wouldn't be asking: Video Drivers are all up to date.

I am having the exact same problem!
I had to Install Windows 7 and I cannot get the resolution to go above 1600x900, however when the computer first arrived it was able to render 1920x1080 in windows 8.
Have you been able to resolve this?
I've been in contact with DELL customer service and they have no idea how to fix it.

Chances are you need to install your video drivers.

Go to support.dell.com, use your service tag to look up the "original configuration" -- what LCD panel is listed there?

I'm not sure about your problem, but I did some research a while back when I first had this problem and found out that they did make a cheaper version of this laptop that only had the 1600 x 900 resolution, so that's all I can figure about mine. I just did some research and found my part number and it is indeed the 1600 x 900 monitor, LAME

In Windows 7, Start > Type "Device Manager" > open it > check display adapters > Make sure none of them say "Standard VGA", just in case...
