Memory Upgrade for Latitude D510 - 1Gb will not work
I have an old Dell Latitude D510 laptop that works very well but little slow and I tried to upgrade RAM memory from 512mb to 1Gb PC2-5300S 667MHz .
The laptop wouldn't boot and showed no error codes. I tied different slots with no luck.
Has anyone tried to upgrade RAM memory to 1Gb?
Does anyone know if I can upgrade any higher than 512mb?

Hi Bob,
Welcome to the Community. The Latitude D510 uses DDR2 memory, at 400 and 533 Mhz. This system will support a maximum of 2 GB.

Another possible issue that's much trickier to determine is maximum memory BANKS on the DIMM. Not all memory modules of the same capacity are designed the same way, so it's possible that some will work in that system while others will not. For what it's worth, when in doubt I've often used Crucial.com's memory selector tool in order to identify parts that will work. They've never let me down.
But honestly even 1GB won't get you very far here in 2017. Even 2GB would be pretty marginal. You may want to consider spending a bit more and just getting a used laptop from somewhere like Discount Electronics. Much more bang for your buck if you're still using a D510 today. And if you further got an SSD upgrade even in an older laptop, for everyday productivity tasks it would be nearly as fast as a brand new system, and probably FASTER than a brand new system equipped with a spinning hard drive.
