My Inspiron n5040 is rejecting the drivers supposedly associated with my service tag.

More specifically, when I try to install the network adapter and video card drivers, it gives me a message to the effect of having incompatible hardware. I lost the discs it came with.

If it matters the drivers were brought over on a flashdrive after downloading on a different computer.

Welcome to the Community,

If you have reinstalled Windows then you will need to reinstall the drivers in the correct order,if not some of the drivers may not get installed.

For correct order to reinstall drivers refer to this link : support.dell.com/.../document

Follow the order given in the link above while reinstalling the drivers.
