My new XPS 1530 BlueRay Writer will not eject disk

Hi

I received my XPS M1530 in London last week.

I went to get a driver CD ROM disk for the Brother laser printer

I inserted the disk, the driver were successfully, printed two copies of an exhibition ticket and then tried to eject the disk.

I cannot eject the disk. Why?

Fn - F10 failed

The media bar EJECT button failed

The rebooted and EJECT button failed

Windows Explorer and then right click on the drive and selected the menu item "Eject" failed. It raised a dialog that said "Insert Disc" !??

Help me please!!!

Ps:  sent a message to customer support on Saturday night. Tried searching for bios and blueray writer drivers updates on the Dell support site. I have A09 BIOS , the most recent one already installed.

This is a horrible because I love machine, now it would appear I need to get it replaced....

Hmmmm

Sounds faulty to me but there is a trick!!

Paper clip unfolded 1X

look at the bezel on Laptop dvd drive  there is a small hole insert the paper clip Gently until you feel it touch something then firmly continue to push until draw opens.

Thats the emergency eject secret hole however seems what you guys have is dud's dead or partially dead dvd drives

What are you talking about?

It is a Blue Ray driver with a slot loading function.

Where is the "secret" pin hole? I far as I can see on this XPS M1530 there is no pinhole to insert a paper clip (like removing the SIM card on a iphone). I lifted the laptop to see if there was one on the bottom. I see nothing special to reveal a manual eject.

This is a frustrating design fault, because I spent a good hour watching youtube videos and google for the solution to the problem.

Does anyone know if it is possible to manually remove the Blue Ray Slot Loading drive?

The laptop is so new, a week old, that this looks like a serious show stopper for me. Hmmm ....

I think I confused the issue. Not driver, but drive

This is the system I have.

Blu-ray Writer

Mashuta BD RE UJ-225S ATA Device*

This is the hardware that has swallowed the CD ROM with my Brother laserprinter drivers and will not now give it up. I cannot get the disk out. Full stop. There is no secret pinhole. It seems that this is a software firmware problem or a hardware problem. I don't know the answer.

The rest of my configuration will not help to resolve this but here goes.

Dell Inspiron XPS m1530

4gb RAM

1920x1200 UWXGA

 Centrinuo Duo 2 2.5GHz

500 GB HDD

Were the drivers on a standard CD disc - rather than a mini-disc?

Either way... it may require a visit from a technician :(

Re removing the drive:  I can't be sure, because my M1730 has a tray loading drive... but I would've thought a slot-loading drive could be removed in much the same way as a tray-loading drive?

You'll need to consult the service manual for confirmation?

Have you read the 'Optical Drive' section in the service manual link I put up in my previous post Peter?

It shows how to remove the optical drive in a M1530, and thinking about it... it'll be exactly the same method of removal, whether it's a tray loading or a slot loading drive, since they both have to fit in the same drive bay :D

Other than that... you should consider using either the (24/7) XPS Premium Support telephone number (0844 444 5818 if you're in the UK), or the 'Online Chat' support option, to contact tech support.

Those are far better/quicker/reliable options, to sending an email.

You'll need your service tag number to hand for both.

Good luck, and please let us know how you get on, whatever you decide to do (self removal/support) ;)

Every dvd drive/slot loading or any closed case PC/Laptop drive has a "emergency" eject mechanism which you use high tech tool (otherwise known as a paper clip) to Force eject a locked DVD/CD other wise means taking the drive of it means you have to dissassemble the top casing and the laser mounting. in slot drive terms is ever worst becausse of loading mechanism.

Different nanufacturesr may include thos emergency eject on right or Left of drive bet way is to peek inside with a brigh light and is that doest help user your tact along with th paper clip to litterally feel the pertrusion that sits at low level either right or left of drive.

Either way you have to get a tech out and get a proper drive anyway and round and round you go until you find one that works as it should, but pay attention leave a CD/DVD inside and watch how the tech removes it, I bet he knows where the force eject button is....

Sorry if you found my help no help at all I thought with pictures you could get creative and find out for yourself but I guess it takes more than that.... Takes experience...

Your system/laptop has the Same Slot Loader drive mine does and to Remove a Stuck Disk on Mine Requires Removing the Drive and Taking the Top off of the Drive 4 screws Once the Drive is Out of the System.

If YOUR System is New CALL TECH Support...

Here is what My system Manual Says.

Look Halfway down the Page,

Removing Media from the Optical Drive.

Hope this Helps.

I had a tech come by to replace a broken bexel on my laptop I asked him how to remove a cd/dvd froma slot drive he told me you need to uses a paper clip on either right side or left side depending on which brand...

I have already posted a link further back explaining the procedure. though it was dismissed.= as unhelpful.

ok sice it seems difficult to understand a picture maybe a movie will work... idiot proof?

you would be surprised what you can do with a paper clip I know the paper clip trick which is implemented in every drive to my knowledge to simplify the process or removing a stuck disk...

Either way these guys need new drives continuing to use two cards or a a paper clip is wrong...

Hello

If you are considering buying an XPS M1530 then I rather strongly recommend buying the next day onsite support from Dell. I managed to get a 4 years for 3 years deal just before the sales deadline. I have had machine for only a week. On my previous machine lthe Inspiron 9400 I just bought the return-to-base option, which that after a year then you have to return the machine to Dell via the post.

At my office today, I arranged for a Dell Engineer to come along and fix my laptop. I left him for about twenty minutes to replace the faulty Bluray writer drive with a brand new one, which he had brought with him.

When I eventually got called back to the meeting room, he returned my laserprinter CD ROM that was stuck inside the drive. I was shocked because it was severely scratched. He said that he had major difficulty removing it from the drive. In fact, he showed me the precision screwdriver he had used to wrench the disk out from the drive.

So I doubt seriously enough that a paper clip or even a pinhole on the opening of the slot, if such a thing existed, could have removed the disk with my circumstance. My factory installed drive was a dud that lasted only one insert-disk operation and then acted like a baby on crack coke.

Afterwards, I got my Bluray copy of Casino Royale extended edition and tested movie discs with the new writer to prove to myself that all was well. Sweet!

The lesson is for XPS M1530 to get that extended service and let a professional handle it, unless you are a pro yourself. Now I am supremely glad that I did not go cheap, especially with something like a difficult to remove slot load drive in this new XPS machine. It means I have peace of mind for a few years to come ... :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks
