New Hard Drive for Inspiron 5150

My daugther dropped my 5150 today, and it messed up the hard drive (I get a "data error cyclic redundancy check" when attempting to boot). So I am trying to replace the hard drive, and I wanted to make sure that I purchased the correct type. I found this drive on NewEgg. I was hoping someone can confirm that it will work for the 5150. Also, do I need any other parts to replace the hard drive.

Thank you!

That one will not work - you cannot use a SATA drive.  You need the parallel ATA version:

I bought that drive but it didn't fit into the laptop. The connetors were different between the old hard drive and the new one. In fact, now that I'm looking at the old drive, it specifically says "Serial ATA".

The original drive cannot be serial ATA if it's an Inspiron 5150.  That system will not take a SATA drive.

More likely, you failed to remove the black blade connector from the back of the original drive - you will need to place it over the pins on the new drive in order to connect it to the system.
